O.R. TAMBO PUTS DELIVERY AND WHAT MUST MOVE NEXT ON THE PROVINCIAL AGENDA.

As COGTA Eastern Cape convenes the 2nd Quarter and final MuniMEC of the municipal term in East London, O.R. Tambo District Municipality is accounting for progress, confronting delivery gaps and placing priorities requiring accelerated attention on the provincial agenda.
Opening the MuniMEC, MEC Zolile Williams emphasised the need for stronger infrastructure maintenance and interventions that respond to the different financial and operational realities of municipalities, reinforcing the importance of moving beyond infrastructure provision towards functionality and sustainability.
Delivering the consolidated District-wide presentation, Deputy Executive Mayor Cllr Tandekile Sabisa says the District has established the necessary IGR and DDM structures, and the focus must now shift decisively towards implementation, monitoring and accountability.
The District is reporting progress while putting the pressure points firmly on the table: protecting audit gains, strengthening revenue and debt management, accelerating conditional grant expenditure, improving disaster readiness and moving infrastructure and catalytic projects into implementation.
“As a District, our priority is to ensure that the systems, projects and investments we report on translate into measurable improvements in service delivery, economic opportunity and the daily lives of our communities,” says Cllr Sabisa.
With funded and pipeline catalytic projects across the District, the presentation identifies the funding, bulk infrastructure, land, regulatory approvals and intergovernmental commitments required to unlock implementation.
This is IGR in action: different spheres of government around one table, not simply reporting problems, but identifying what must move, who must act and what must be unlocked.
One District. One development agenda. From planning to implementation.
